Club History
Although a number of Boroughmuir players had trials for Scotland only Nan Drysdale (1920s) and member of Edinburgh Ladies actually played. She was also SWHA President 1949-52.
Grace and Isobel Taylor (sisters of TAS Taylor) were stalwarts of Boroughmuir FPs through 40s, 50s and 60s.
Evlyn Raistrick (1960), captain in the 60s and 70s served on numerous SWHA and SHU committees, SHU Chairman 1992-96, international umpire and Tournament Director (European, World Cups, Atlanta Olympics, Manchester Commonwealth Games etc), member of FIH Competitions Committee and Hockey Rules Board.
Viv Scott (1972) also a member of numerous SWHA and SHU technical committees is currently SHU Doping and Ethics Officer.
Jacky Burnett (1967) international umpire and technical official, is currently SHU President.
The first recorded hockey matches involving both pupils and student teachers were played in 1908 against North Berwick, Gillespies, Eskbank, Falkirk, Edinburgh University, Edinburgh Ladies, Waid and Queen Street.
An FP Association was formed in 1903 but it was not until 1913 that there was an Athletic Section.
Boroughmuir FP Hockey Club was formed in 1922 and officially joined the Scottish Women's Hockey Association in 1927.
Further fixtures were added including Kirkcaldy, Portobello, Knox, Corstorphine and Melrose.
Like many sports clubs Boroughmuir FP Hockey Club went "open" in the early 80s. A number of the FPs still meet socially and in 1997 arranged a dinner to celebrate 75 years of the hockey club – some 80 people attended – the oldest guest was over 80! A publication charting the first 75 Years was produced.
Boroughmuir Hockey Club, having being itinerant since the inception of artificial turf pitches in the early 80s, looks forward to returning home to Meggetland in 2006 when the new facility will be completed.
